Temporary to the Eternal

We hold on tightly to the temporal and yet loosely pursue the eternal. We see and seek what can be quickly taken with the turn of events. What we see, what we can feel and what we enjoy - in this life are temporary.

Captivating adventures, worldly success and financial gain, love from another, physical fortitude - all fade in light of eternity as they are bound to this temporal world.

Our world amplifies the pursuit to solely focus on the here and now, to do what feels good as opposed to what is good; in the process, our soul become restless.

St. Augustine poignantly penned, “You have made us for yourself O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”

The world sweeps us into a whirlwind of movement and a never-ending motion to accumulate more possessions, more recognition, more wealth, more happiness, more and more.

Yet, all that our world has to offer is temporary, as if we are grasping at the boundless wind, which will never be held. We must release our desire to walk in the ways of the world, even if that means at a worldly loss, to find the narrow path in step with that of God.

One day we will all be but a memory - from “is” to “was” – as we are sojourners on this earth in route onward to our heavenly home. The Bible says, “For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.”

Our souls are eternal - forged in this life with strength through sorrow, joy through God’s blessings, and hope amplified through Christ’s love in preparation for the forever that is ahead.

In the final months of 2023, ask yourself: am I sowing the seeds of the temporary or am I planting a harvest that will thrive in view of God’s eternal purpose for me?

Will the efforts of how you spend your time, how you use your words, how you invest in relationships, how you focus your financial resources, and how others will remember your life here on this earth – point others toward the eternal hope of God?

You were given the breath of life today, so what you sow today will become eternal goodness for tomorrow.

The temporary world is fading each day, dear friend. Walk boldly on the narrow path toward God’s eternal plan for you – love lavishly, hope endlessly, give freely, and know confidently that God’s purposes for you will be fulfilled in the most magnificent way in the journey ahead. ~
